Hong Kong Cantonese Opera Artists Club Limited(Artists’ Group)
The CAAHK Artists’ Group is relatively new among all affiliated associations of CAAHK. In the past, there were six branches in CAAHK, namely Siu Wo Tong, Hing Wo Tong, Fook Wo Tong, Sun Wo Tong, Wing Wo Tong, and Tak Wo Tong (including Luen Yue Tong), which were all formed by actors and actresses. In the early 1970s, under the initiation of Mr. Shek Yin-sze, Mr. Lok Siu-kui, etc., along with recognition by Mr. Leung Sing-poh, the then Chairman, and all directors, the Artists’ Group was formally established. However, the membership was not re-registered. About two years after Shek's death, Lok invited Mr. Sun Hoi-Chuen to take over and reorganize the Group. In 1987, Sun, together with Mr. Chan Kwok-yuen, Mr. Chan Kim-sing, Mr. Chan Kim-fung, Mr. Ho Chi-sing, Mr. Leung Ming-sing, Mr. Lau Kim-hung, etc., First formed an organization with about 10 - 20 members in the Board of Directors, from which seven directors were elected, with Sun concurrently serving as the Chairman. A formal application in registering the group as a limited company was made to the Government. At the same time, the existing club-house was purchased in early 1988. In the three years of 1988, 1990, and 1991, the Artists' Group staged fund-raising performances in Tsuen Wan Town Hall, Sun Beam Theatre, and Lee Theatre respectively to raise funds and support the development of the Group. Nowadays, in addition to the lunar year end welfare payment of $200 ($250 for members aged 65 and above), members are also entitled to $200 as condolence money for hospitalization. Meanwhile, relatives of members who have passed away will receive condolence money of $1,000. In return, members have to pay $10 per month for buying paper offerings. In addition, the artists' group organized a visit to the Cantonese opera exhibition at the Sam Tung Uk Museum in the New Territories on 17 November 1992.
